WAGENFELD · SCHWARZE LINIE
TRUE BAUHAUS CLASSIC
The frugal, but intense design of the pattern SCHWARZE LINIE ("black line") adds to this true classic a new grace. The noble black-and-white contrast brings back recollections of the reluctant chromaticity of the classic Bauhaus architecture.
Wilhelm Wagenfeld created the “Service 639” in 1934 in the spirit of Bauhaus. In 1937, the form WAGENFELD was awarded the Gold Medal for design at the World Exhibition in Paris. Today, the agelessly modern form captivates by continuing to be up-to-date. Material, functionality and design together form a single entity with every object.
The designer of the form:
“Everything that is useful must be beautiful; otherwise things do not do their job.” This was the maxim of Wilhelm Wagenfeld, born in 1900 in Bremen, who created porcelain items and a service with and for FÜRSTENBERG in 1934. Wagenfeld always followed the central idea of the Bauhaus movement: “Form follows function” – his works have a classic beauty.
