FÜRSTENBERG’s latest project was presented to the public last Friday at a vernissage at Galerie Thomas Rehbein in Cologne. Together with the artist Benjamin Houlihan, FÜRSTENBERG created three fascinating objects based on his licked paintings. The audience was enthusiastic. According to curator Olaf Salié, EDITION TRANSARTE is intended to bridge the gap between contemporary art and manufacture. The works of HOULIHAN and FÜRSTENBERG form the beginning of a series of further works.
“What fascinates me about Benjamin Houlihan’s ‘licked paintings’ is their ambiguity. The first impression is purely aesthetic. I see petals, their tenderness, their colour as decorative and ornamental, as if created for the medium, porcelain as a medium. Only the information about the process creates a new level. The picture elements are licked, instead of petals I see impressions of the artist’s tongue,” explains Kurartor Olaf Salié.
Managing Director Stephanie Saalfeld emphasised how important new inspiring collaborations with internationally renowned designers and selected artists are for manufactories and thus also for FÜRSTENBERG, as they open the eye for new things.
The artworks of Edition Houlihan are strictly limited and will be available in the Galerie Rehbein and in FÜRSTENBERG’s online shop.
