"What fascinates me about Benjamin Houlihan's 'licked paintings' is their ambiguity," Olaf Salié explains the expressiveness of the art series. "The first impression is purely aesthetic in nature. I see petals, their tenderness, their colour as decorative and ornamental, as if created for the medium, porcelain as a medium. Only the information about the process creates a new level. The picture elements are licked, instead of petals I see impressions of the artist's tongue. The first impression is massively corrected. The work suddenly receives something highly intimate, almost sexual. More sensuality, more fusion is not possible".
