The Canadian Cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras made his debut in the main hall at Carnegie Hall in New York with Concerto Köln in March 2004. In November 2002 he has received from both Pierre Boulez and the Glenn Gould Foundation, the City of Toronto Glenn Gould International Protégé Prize in Music. This recognition, from one of the greatest musicians of our time, is indicative of the exceptional musical talent Jean-Guihen embodies. Jean-Guihen Queyras is Professor at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart, Germany and one of the Artistic Directors of the 'Rencontres Musicales de Haute-Provence' which take place in Forcalquier in July each year. He plays a cello made by Gioffredo Cappa in 1696, on loan from the Association Mécénat Musical Société Générale. His extensive repertoire encompasses classical and contemporary works. Jean-Guihen Queyras's recent 'Arpeggione' recording for Harmonia Mundi with the pianist Alexandre Tharaud, featuring works by Viennese composers as diverse Schubert, Berg and Webern, was 'Editor's Choice' in Gramophone, 'Chamber Music Choice' in the BBC Music Magazine and 'Strad Selection'.
The French pianist, Alexandre Tharaud, graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris and started his international career in earnest when he won the 2nd Prize at the ARD Competition in Munich. As a soloist, Alexandre Tharaud has appeared with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, Orchestre National de France and others. He is wellknown as an outstanding soloist as well as a fine chamber musician and has given concerts at the Schleswig-Holstein, Brighton, Warwick and Norfolk festivals and at venues such as Bamberger Konzerthalle, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Musikverein in Vienna, Köln Philharmonie and others.
