"Dialoghi d'arte e dí design" - Marcello Morandini
17.12.05 until 17.04.06
Marcello Morandini, the famous Italian designer, is the focus of this exhibit. On the occasion of his 65th birthday, the exhibit’s large display of his works pursues the issue of Morandini and his maxim: “Design means the confrontation between intuition and newly combined, functional rules,” which he has put into practice in his works over the past few decades. The title of the exhibition stands for the basic principles in Morandini’s creation, geometry and contrast. FÜRSTENBERG, together with the European Industrial Museum for Porcelain and Ceramics in Selb-Plössberg, is presenting a cross-section of Morandini’s creations, above all his work in porcelain.

"Judith's Sisters" - Paintings and Photographies by Clifford Klinger
19.10.05 until 19.03.06
Judith, the strong woman from the Old Testament who went into the enemy camp while her own town was under siege to General Holofernes and beheaded him in his sleep thus frightening the besiegers into fleeing, is representative of the favorite subject in the artistic works of Clifford Klinger. Klinger produces variations on the theme of “femininity” learned in porcelain painting at Fürstenberg in black and white photography and painting. But one technique in particular developed by Klinger himself will meet with a large amount of interest – graphic works in porcelain where Klinger brings new life to the technique of lithophane: Klinger embosses his motifs relief-like into thin, unglazed porcelain sheets, so that when light falls on the object, lighter and darker parts of an image appear.

"QI" - Porcelain by Kap-Sun Hwang
17.08.05 until 23.10.05
In Eastern philosophy, the word “Qi “ or “Chi” represents vitality and active energy. With the art of his ceramic pottery skills, potter Kap-Sun Hwang from South Korea tries to design harmonic living spaces, to use positive energy actively and to bring himself into harmony with the physical elements of the earth. To this end he uses novel ceramic techniques, which he also knows how to implement with the FÜRSTENBERG Porcelain Manufactory. The Qi bowl set, its shape inspired by the sea rose and honored with the red dot design award as “Best of the best for highest design quality” by the Design Center of North Rhine-Westphalia, is just the first product stemming from this collaboration. In the exhibition, Kap-Sun Hwang presents his innovative ceramics to a wide audience.

"Summer Fragrance"
18.06.05 until 18.09.05
Summer Fragrance – Porcelain has quite a lot to do with fragrances and aromas! The raw material for porcelain itself has a special odor, and the painting of porcelain is simply not possible without essential oils, which are mixed in with the paints. From time immemorial, flowers and herbs have served as motifs for floral patterns and, after all, fragrances and aromas accompany every dining experience. In this exhibit, seasonal porcelain with various summer themes such as the barbecue, terrace, picnic, and garden party are tied in with the wonderful world of fragrances and aromas, which are revealed so fabulously right at summertime. A “fragrance pavilion” stages nature and culture fragrantly, and an interactive experience-oriented information unit makes it possible to experience porcelain with the senses as we do fragrances and aromas.

"Vielerley Narretei" - "All Sorts of Foolishness"
25.05.05 until 21.08.05
In “Vielerley Narretei” (“all sorts of foolishness”), porcelain figures of fools are the focus of a special exhibit: Who doesn’t know Till Eulenspiegel, Don Quixote de la Mancha, or the various clowns and comic figures out of the Commedia dell’Arte? Nearly one hundred figures spanning three centuries tell their stories and adventures, each in their own artistic and literary manner typical for their time. A literature program is provided to stimulate more intensive involvement with them.

"Viechereien" - Photographies of Animals by Walter Sittig
13.04.05 until 18.09.05
Famous wildlife photographer Werner Sittig took some wonderful snapshots over the years in his photo exhibit “Viechereien", which shows a selection of pictures that go against the idea of being "wildly“ serious, where even horses appear to laugh. But are animals really ever merry or sad, arrogant or peaceful, clever or dumb? Actually, we humans are only seeing ourselves in these pictures, because we have the expectation that animals have the same expressions of will, characteristics, and talents that we have. But what animals feel in reality and what they express in their gestures is still very much their secret. Even with its wealth of humor, the exhibit invites philosophizing about the relationship between man and animal.
